The primary function of the Institutional Animal Care & Use Committee (IACUC) is to oversee the Animal Care and Use Program (ACUP), which includes ensuring the humane care and use of animals that are the subjects of the teaching, training, and research programs at Thomas Jefferson University. The mission of the IACUC and the IACUC Office is to assist investigators and staff with the planning and conduct of teaching, training, and research that uses animals and certain animal byproducts in accordance with local, state, and federal laws and regulations, and while promoting the highest quality science.
This is accomplished through reviewing and inspecting all aspects of the University's ACUP. This includes all animal housing facilities and use locations, animal use protocols, animal care records, investigating complaints and concerns about improper animal use, and making recommendations to the Institutional Official (IO).
