Our mission is to concentrate and enhance existing interests and expertise in vaccine research and the related areas of immunology and microbial pathogenesis. The Center will build on strengths in basic and translational research in providing a forum for open discussions and a focal point in the Philadelphia area for people with these same interests. A notable strength of the Center is the balance of scientists conducting basic and clinical research, an important requirement for the success of the hypothesis driven development of novel vaccines.
- Pathogen Research - Exploring basic mechanisms that pathogens use to infect us, persist, spread and cause disease.
- Vaccine Design, Delivery & Immune Responses - Developing novel approaches to vaccination in order to target some of the worlds more important infectious diseases.
- Host/Pathogen Interactions - Exploring how pathogens and hosts interact on the molecular level with the goal of developing novel anti-microbials or host-targeted therapies to alleviate disease.
- Basic Immune Functions - Uuncovering novel mechanisms regulating immune responses.
- Cancer Vaccines & Cancer Immunogenicity - Exploring novel vaccines and therapies to eradicate cancers.
- Public Health Vaccines - Exploring public attitudes towards vaccines, barriers to vaccine uptake and the public health implications of vaccine programs.
- Clinical Research - Clinical trials at Jefferson are testing some of the latest approaches to defeating infectious diseases.
