Rajarshi Chakrabarti joins MitoCare as tenure-track Assistant Professor. His lab will focus on cytoskeleton regulation of mitochondrial function in health and disease.

2021

Marco Tigano joins the MitoCare Center as tenure-track Assistant Professor. His lab will focus on mitochondrial stress signaling and innate immunity.

The 3D Focused Ion Beam - Scanning Electron Microscope (FIB-SEM) arrives at the MitoCare Center through the support of generous donations.
2019
The 1st "MitoCircle Summer Marathon Symposium" is organized at MitoCare. Marco Tigano is among the invited speakers.
2015

The bi-weekly MitoCircle Journal Club (MCJC) kicks off, organized by György Csordás.

2014

MitoCare faculty officially moves to the MitoCare Suite in the renovated 5th floor of the Jefferson Alumni Hall.

2013

The MitoCare Center for Mitochondrial Imaging Research and Diagnostics is officially formed.

2012

Dean Mark Tykocinski assigns programmatic space for the mitochondrial Program.

"Mitochondria & Metabolism" Symposium honoring Jan Hoek's 70th birthday with 130+ attendees.
The first uniporter mouse model arrives (MICU1 fl/fl mouse)
2010

Erin L. Seifert joins Thomas Jefferson as the 1st tenure-track faculty member specifically recruited to strengthen mitochondrial metabolism research. Erin Seifert starts the in vivo research efforts by generating the first mouse models.

2009

Dean Mark Tykocinski initiates Programmatic Research strategy at Jefferson.

GO Grant and other Programmatic Research Grants are awarded to faculty members.
The MitoCircle Seminar Series kicks off to bring together mitochondriacs of the Tri-State area.
The Chair of Pathology, Dr. Steve Peiper offers his support toward strengthening the faculty.
2003

György Csordás starts his laboratory driven by an interest in the study of  excitation-metabolism coupling in the heart.

Research collaborations focused on mitochondrial biology are streghthened by synergisms among the faculty members.
1998

The Imaging Facility is inaugurated with the arrival of one of the first BioRad Confocal & Multiphoton microscopes.

1997

György Csordás starts his post-doctoral fellowship with György Hajnóczky studying ER-mitochondria calcium signaling.

1996

György Hajnóczky starts his independent laboratory with focus on mitochondrial signaling and dynamics.

1986 - 1992

Joannes B. Hoek and Suresh K. Joseph bring vast bioenergetics expertise to Jefferson.

György Hajnóczky starts his post-doctoral fellowship with Andrew P. Thomas studying the coupling of calcium oscillations with mitochondrial metabolisms using single cell imaging.
