Abhiraj Saxena, B.S., working on the specialized Linux-based PC

We don't think science should be proprietary, and encourage and challenge everyone around us to find open-source alternatives to commonly used proprietary software. With the generous support of the Saligman Family Pilot Grant, we built this powerful custom Linux-based PC that only uses open source software. It is utilized for demanding tasks such as running numerical simulations and imputing missing data for large datasets. Students with programming skills and/or interest in R, Python, Linux, etc. are encouraged to get involved.

Some of the open source software that we use and recommend:

• Operating system: CAELinux
• Statistics and Data analysis: R, Python 3, VSCodium, GNU Octave, Scilab
• Graphical vectors: Inkscape
• 3D Modeling: Slic3r
• Simulations: SimVascular
• Reference Manager: Zotero
