The Jefferson Clinical and Translational Science Center (CTSC) works to improve the health of people in our communities by turning scientific discoveries into patient care, connecting researchers with frontline clinicians, and providing patients across our region with research participation opportunities.
Our Mission
Our mission is to leverage a network of universities, medical centers, community hospitals, providers, and community organizations to improve the pace and impact of translational research on frontline medical care across urban and rural settings.
Education Training the Next Generation
Our vision is a system where the needs and insights of frontline clinicians directly inform the future of translational research and the discoveries being made can be implemented where they are needed the most. We will use the strengths of the consortium to train staff, student, and researchers how to use modern methods to conduct translational research.

The Clinical and Translational Science Center at Thomas Jefferson University’s Sidney Kimmel Medical College is taking another major step forward, with leadership now in place to guide four core areas essential to the CTSC’s mission of accelerating discoveries into patient care.

The Center is a consortium that brings together top leaders in community health and translational research. Through our shared commitment to population health and health equity, we can reach across a diverse spectrum of communities and wider geographic area. We seek to create unique opportunities through data collection and dissemination, cross-training, and resources sharing. Our consortium institutions include:
Drexel University
Known for its expertise in biomedical engineering, community health, data sciences, and artificial intelligence research and education, Drexel is a global leader in producing research where life sciences and information technology meet. With a strong history of working with Jefferson’s Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center, they are a natural fit for this initiative.
Nemours Children’s Hospital
Nemours Children’s serves as the Department of Pediatrics at Sidney Kimmel Medical College. It is a nationally ranked pediatric health system and a leader in research across the age continuum. Nemours brings not only a pediatric population focus, but expertise in a number of research and care delivery domains.
Rothman Institute
Rothman is a global leader in orthopedics research and care. It has worked closely with Jefferson Health’s orthopedics team for many years, creating a system in which translational research and frontline care delivery worked hand in hand to improve patient outcomes throughout Greater Philadelphia and beyond.
